Who is Laura Lee?

Laura Lee Gulledge (she/ we) is an inimitable community artist, author,

self taught cartoonist, and graphic medicine woman who lives in a

Blue Ridge Mountain schoolhouse outside of Charlottesville, Virginia.

Her books include The Dark Matter of Mona Starr, Page by Paige, and Sketchbook Dares. (Abrams Books) Plus her book Will & Whit has been adapted into a musical.

Laura Lee is a teaching artist who began teaching at age 15 and specializes in working with Neurodivergent youth. She is also a collaborative muralist, comics journalist, cuddle facilitator, street artist...and former Macy's NYC scenic artist.

Fralin Museum of Art, and the Baltimore Children & Youth Fund.

Trailblazing honors include being the first graduate from the James

Madison University Masters Program in Art Education, first woman nominated

for the Eisner Award for Best Lettering in comics, and uniquely served as Charlottesville Citywide Arts Fellow with The Bridge PAI & NBC29.

Outside the studio Laura Lee loves dancing, singing, hiking,

playing her dolcimer, resting, and dreaming up impossible things.

Teaching Artist

I lead workshops, camps, residencies, and interactive experiences in a diverse array of settings for both youth & adults. Programs include: comics, self care plans, sketchbooks, mindfulness, and unmasking autism. *Statewide faculty with the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.*

Cocreated Murals

I specialize in cocreating unique collaborative murals with young people, working with a small group or even an entire grade. Both painted + paste-up styles. Influenced by my background in comics, street art, and experience as a Macy’s NYC window scenic artist.
